Lubna Anantakrishnan is the CEO of SWaCH, the worker-led cooperative in Pune that integrates self-employed waste pickers into formal solid waste management, serving hundreds of thousands of households through decentralized, inclusive collection and recycling systems. Under her leadership, SWaCH has become a globally recognised model for people-centred waste solutions that empower mostly women workers from marginalised communities while advancing practical sustainability and social justice in urban systems. Lubna also engages in research and advocacy on waste picker livelihoods, extended producer responsibility, and equitable urban waste policy, amplifying the role of informal recyclers in India’s transition to more inclusive, efficient waste economies.
